Macy’s Radley Sectional Review

We’ve officially had our Macy’s Radley Sectional for three years now! As I constantly get messages & questions about this piece of furniture, could talk about this thing for hours, I figured it was time that I wrote an in depth review & covered some of my most commonly asked questions about this couch.

Our New Home

If you aren’t familiar with our home journey: we bought our house in Spring of 2020. I guess you could say we were the very last of the “before” buyers.

As the stores were still closed when we made this purchase in May of 2020 – we bought this couch completely sight unseen and had to solely go off of online reviews. We never received the swatch that we requested by mail, so ordering it was a huge risk, but luckily it all worked out!

When searching for a sectional we knew we needed something huge to fill our family room. The space is actually a converted two car garage that we planned to use primarily as a theatre & game room that would be one of our main spaces for entertaining.

As we already had a feminine gray chesterfield sofa in our living room, we wanted to go with something a bit different that leaned towards a more coastal, masculine & yet modern aesthetic that would still blend well with the rest of our home, while being large enough to comfortably fit our family & friends for a movie night.

I searched high and low for a huge, affordable, sectional that came in a blue-ish color, and ultimately decided on the Radley collection from Macys in Heavenly Robbinsegg Blue. We got the five piece sectional, a chair bed, and the matching ottomans for both the chair bed & the couch. They also came with coordinating throw pillows (five with the couch, and one with the chair), which was a nice bonus. Between some paint, lighting upgrades, and this furniture set – it’s made our family room the perfect combination of coastal & cozy, considering how large the space is.

Right now our entire set from Macys is the lowest price of the Fall Season. Click the Photos below to shop all of the pieces in our Coastal Grandmillennial inspired Family Room.

How big is it?

This couch is HUGE! Our five piece sectional is 12′ 4″ wide by 9′ 5″ long, however you can customize the pieces to change the dimensions. Ours features six seat cushions, in various sizes, but can easily accommodate 8-10 people to watch sports or a movie.

The chair bed is also wide enough for two adults to sit on if they’re a couple, or for a child and adult to sit together.

What was the ordering process like?

The ordering process was super simple – we just added it all to our cart online & pressed submit. Our order took 10 weeks to come in, which we were super pleased with, given the worldwide delays. A few weeks after our order was placed – I did see that the set went on sale. I called my furniture rep, and requested a price adjustment. They happily obliged and the 10-15 minute call saved me a few hundred dollars.

I did decline the additional warranty and have not had a single issue with our couch since.

What was the Delivery Process like?

We got white glove delivery, and it was well worth it. When our item became available for delivery, we were very lucky that there was an available delivery window, a couple days later, on a Saturday morning (coincidentally it was the morning we hosted a birthday party for my husband).

From my calls with the rep – pending where you live could be a very different delivery timeline as Macy’s does the deliveries, and pending how rural of an area you live in, they may only deliver to your territory once or twice a month, which is a separate time quote from the production quote.

When the couch arrived I couldn’t believe how big the pieces were! They were extremely bulky, and the process of connecting them does take a little finesse as you have to cascade them onto one another in order to lock them all into place.

Something to note – ours is assembled on carpet & once assembled this couch does NOT budge. So if for example you set it up, and realize it needs to be moved a few inches, you need to fully disassemble the entire thing, scoot it over a little and then re assemble it.

Any flaws upon delivery?

The only negative we experienced with the delivery was that the pieces did have loose strands along the piping on the cushions. I didn’t deem it worth a call to customer service, so I went at the strands carefully with a pair of sharp scissors and snipped them off without pulling any of the threads. Three years later, the piping is all still perfectly in tact, so I stand by that decision.

The throw pillows that it came with did look a little sad from transport. This was easily fixed by removing the insterts, giving them a good fluff, and restuffing them into the pillow covers. I do a full re-fluff of these pillows every couple of months. Eventually I did swap out the pillows to include down inserts and covers from Caitlin Wilson.

What Color Fabric did you get?

This is by far my most commonly asked question. We got one of the stock fabrics – The Heavenly Robbinsegg Blue. It’s a very coastal pastel color that reads between a blue and a green similar to a seafoam color. The color is fairly accurately depicted on their website photos of the couch in terms of how it falls between a blue and a green color. As ours is in a gray room, that doesn’t have much natural light, I do find that it does not seem as bright as the color on the website – in person it seems a little bit more shadowy than the online picture. The shadows do make it appear more muted / gray than it actually is at times.

The fabric is very soft, and it feels almost like a corduroy and a linen had a baby. It has the softness, warmth, and slight fuzz of a corduroy, but with the flat, texture that you’d find in a linen. Something to note – the room we have this in is a converted garage, that was not insulted as well as the rest of our house. In the summer months this room is warmer than the rest of the house, and in the winter it’s quite a bit colder than the rest of the house. I’ve found that this is the perfect fabric as it is cozy enough to keep you warm in the winters, but not so warm that it’s uncomfortable to lay on in the summers when the room is at it’s warmest, as it’s still very breathable.

Is it Comfortable?

It really is! A lot of our friends and family also rave that this couch does not have a bad seat on it. I will point out that the size of the seat box impacts the density of the cushion. On our center seats (which are the widest cushions) you sink a couple inches further into those when you sit down than some of the other cushions. We like that it offers seating variety, but it may not be a feature everyone enjoys.

As this couch is a bit lower, with deep seat backs, soft or extra soft seat cushions, and the majority of the seats don’t have arms – I would be very mindful about selecting this couch if I lived with people that are elderly or struggle with mobility, as they could have difficulty getting up off of this couch, as compared to something that is taller and firmer.

The chair bed is extremely comfortable! Typically when you sleep on a pull out sofa, you can feel that metal support bar on your hip when you lay down. This chair bed does not have that problem! It’s very comfortable memory foam type mattress, and is almost the same size as a twin bed, but a hair shorter.

How has the Maintenance been?

Overall this couch has held up very well! Upon delivery there was a tag that recommended flipping the cushions weekly.

I don’t fluff mine that often, but flipping the cushions does keep them in better shape and gives it a more structured look. I typically flip them every 2-3 weeks or before company comes over.

What do you Love about this couch?

The color, size and price point were was sold me on this couch. I also love the wedge seat in the corner.

I also enjoy the flat rectangular arm style as we neatly stack our remotes and a coaster on them, which has reduced the amount of lost remotes & spills.

Due to it’s deep cushions, and our selection of doing chaises & ottomans I will say that this is a lounging couch. I don’t think I’ve ever sat on it without putting my feet up and laying back.

What are it’s biggest flaws?

The only negatives we’ve encountered are the loose threads on the edges upon delivery, and the fact that it’s so comfortable, we never get up.
