Limited Edition Flavor
Are you one of those people who when you see a new product, or a limited edition flavor, from a brand that they love, that you need to try it?
At my last trip to the grocery store, I was looking for Coca-Cola & came across a new product: Coca-Cola Starlight. I was immediately intrigued by the colorful cascade of intergalactic colors on the package and noticed that the only flavor description on the box said “space flavored”. What does that even mean?! I clearly don’t know what space tastes like! I became extremely captivated by this and pulled out my phone, in the middle of the aisle, to Google the flavor profile and came across this passage straight from the press release:
“Coca-Cola Starlight combines great Coca-Cola taste with a dash of the unexpected, including a reddish hue. Its taste includes additional notes reminiscent of stargazing around a campfire, as well as a cooling sensation that evokes the feeling of a cold journey to space.”
Even after reading that description – I still had no idea what the flavor would be so I kept searching & found that this brand new product already had a ton of reviews that mentioned it has a hint of raspberry and/or subtle Dr. Pepper flavors. As someone who loves all things space, and flavored Coca-Cola, I knew I needed to give this a whirl.
Concocting the Flavors
Even before tasting it, I knew the flavors in this would be perfect for a mixed drink. When you think of a Coca-Cola cocktail you immediately think of the rum & coke. I decided to play up the fruit forwardness of this Coca-Cola & it’s bright color by including Dark Rum, Malibu, Lime & a Cherry for a sweet, tropical, out of this world combination.
This truly is a sweet & fruity version of the original Rum & Coke. I found it almost reminiscent of a Dirty Shirley (Vodka, Sprite, Maraschino Cherry Juice & a few cherries) in terms of sweetness & color. If you’re a fan of both drinks, then this will be a great one to try, while it’s available.
Signature Cocktail
This would be a fantastic signature cocktail for your next party, as it’s sure to stand out, as it’s unlikely your guests have tried this brand new product yet. Set out the ingredients, along with a recipe card, to make these delectable cocktails for your guests, or allow them to build the drink themselves. As all of the ingredients are stacked in the glass, and both liquors are the same proportion, it makes for a very easy to assemble drink. They’ll be impressed by the new and unique flavors that you brought to such a popular cocktail.
Recipe:
Fill Highball with Ice
1oz Dark Rum (I used Kraken)
1oz Malibu Rum
Top with Coca-Cola Starlight
Squeeze of Lime
Top with a Cherry
